Mangalore: Saadhana Awards Conferred on Nine Achievers at Glittering Ceremony

Mangalore, Aug 29: 'Saadhana Awards' for the year 2010-11 instituted by Saadhana National Cultural Foundation, Mangalore, was conferred on nine people from different fields for their excellence, at a programme here on Sunday August 28.
Senior TV actor Ananthavelu, dramatist and film actor Radharamachandra, senior dance teacher Muralidhara Rao, Tulu film director Vijay Kumar Kodialbail, Deccan Herald English daily Mangalore bureau chief Ronald Fernandes, senior litterateur critic Vi Ga Nayak, senior Yakshagana artiste Jalavalli Venkatesh Rao, senior social worker Saraswathi Bhat, and senior litterateur Umesh Rao Yekkaru were the award winners. Singer-actor-producer Sharif Katipalla was presented with the ‘Saadhana Youth Award’.
S Ganesh Rao, founder president, Karavali Group of Colleges, inaugurating the programme, said that choosing achievers from different fields and felicitating them is noble work. “This kind of initiation needs more media publicity as in recent years mainly negative aspects of life like crime and other issues are exaggerated by the media,” he asserted.
Conferring the awards, district in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar said that Saadhana National Cultural Foundation deserves great appreciation for organizing an awards ceremony, cultural programme, and comedy show on one stage.
Harikrishna Punaroor, former president, Kendra Kannada Sahithya Parishat, presided. Dharmendra Ganeshpura, chairman, Janaki Group of Companies, Shivananda Karkera, PCM Kunhi, director, Yenepoya educational institutions, and Bhuvanabhirama Udupa were present.
On the occasion, www.yashakarnataka.com, the website of ‘Yasha Karnataka’ newspaper was launched by Dr Devdas Rai, governor, Rotary international district -3180. M G Hegde, director, MIFT Fashion College, released the first Beary language comedy video album ‘Thell Chirikuru’.
P Mahabala Chowta of Durga Furniture released ‘Udugire’, a Tulu audio album.
K V Krishnadas, president, Saadhana National Cultural Foundation, welcomed. Latha Krishnadas, chief, Yasha Karnataka, was present.
RJ Prasanna of 93.5 Red FM, Umesh Karanth, and Arpitha Shetty were the comperes.
Internationally famed artiste Indushree, who features in the Limca Book of Records, performed her ventriloquism act. Comedy programme was staged by N Ramanath. Junior Rajkumar Jagadeesh Shivapura sang some old Kannada numbers of Dr Rajkumar to the applause of the jam-packed audience. Students of Sanathana Natyalaya under dance teacher Sharada Mani Shekhar performed ‘Bharathanatyam’ dance.
