Mangaluru, Nov 3: “The Congress government in the state has failed to respond to the people’s problems. The traditional methods of sand mining have completely come to a halt in the district for the past several months," said MLA Vedavyas Kamath.
Addressing news persons here on Friday, November 3, he said, “After identifying the sand mounds on the Nethravathi and Phalguni rivers by the technical experts of NITK, a seven-member CRZ committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner has submitted a report to KCZM (Karnataka Coastal Zone Management Authority) in Bengaluru seeking permission for sand mining.”
But, unfortunately, there is a scarcity of sand for the developmental works in the district, he said, adding that, “The government is unnecessarily delaying in permitting sand mining on the river banks. Moreover, it shows a negligent attitude. Several developmental works are lagging. The common people cannot afford to buy sand due to its high price.”
He charged that out of 23 dialysis machines as many as 9 of them had become defunct in the Wenlock Hospital.
“Though the Congress party formed the government barely six months ago, the administration has failed to undertake repair works. The government is neglecting the patients. The government should focus on these issues,” Kamath said.
He said the government has not taken any decision to open shops in front of Kadri Park. “We suspect that the Congress government is delaying allotment of new shops to help their close aides,” he remarked.
Kamath said that the government has failed to provide scholarships to students from the SC/ST community.
“The government is not sanctioning funds for development works in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts. Several works taken up by Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) is still pending. At least the government should release funds sanctioned by the previous government,” Kamath said.
