Mangalore: Bodybuilder Roshan Ferrao Bags Ekalavya Award

Mangalore, Aug 27: Mangalore's talented bodybuidling champion Roshan Ferrao has bagged the prestigious Ekalavya sportsperson of the year 2011 state award.
He along with 14 other sportspersons will receive the award from chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda at the Banquet Hall in Vidhana Soudha on Monday August 29, said a media release from the Youth Services department.

List of awardees: H M Jyothi (athletics); Roshan Ferrao (bodybuilding); Viani Antonio D’Cunha (chess); Robin Uthappa (cricket); Amoolya Kamal (football); Jeeva Kumar S (kabaddi); Naveen S (karate); Santhosh CR (kho-kho); Poojashree Venkatesha (tennis); Nethravathi V (powerlifting), Sharanya Mahesh (roller skating); Shubha Chittaranjan (swimming); T D Ravikumar (volleyball); C P R Sudhir Kumar (weightlifting); P Somashekar (specially-abled athletics).
Lifetime achievement award will be conferred on M S Madegowda and P S Vishwanath.
About Roshan Ferrao
Roshan, son of Canute and Dulcine Ferrao, did his initial schooling at his parish school in Ranipura and SSLC at Rosario High School.
He is one of the most promising body-builders the city has ever produced. Ferrao has won several national and international awards since his debut in 1999. He bagged gold medal in Asia Pacific Bodybuilding Championship held in New Zealand in 2000.

He also secured the tenth place in the Mr World competition that was held in Germany in 2000, sixth place in Mr Universe competition held in France in 2001, seventh in Mr Universe competitions held in Spain and second in Indo-Pak Peace and Friendship Bodybuilding Championship held in Islamabad, in 2004.
Besides, he also participated in the Mr World Bodybuilding Championship held in Bangalore. His long list of awards and recognitions include the Bharath Udaya in 1999, Bharath Kishore in 2000, Bharath Shresta in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003. He was Bharath Shree four times and Vidyuth Shree five times.
Roshan Ferrao also bagged the gold in the All-India Inter State Electricity Board’s Tournament held at Raipur, Chattisgarh, in February 2009.
