Mangaluru, Nov 1: “The City police has taken good initiative to sensitise the youths against drug abuse,” said district in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao.
He was addressing a gathering at the ‘Drug Free Mangaluru’ programme organised by the Mangaluru City Police here on Wednesday, November 1 in the Town Hall premises.
“Drugs may give instant and temporary pleasure. But, youths will ruin their lives and the future of their families. I am good that a large number of students have gathered to take part in this walkathon to create awareness against consumption of drugs. Youths should join hands to make the city free from drugs. All the people’s representatives will be supportive towards the cause,” he said.
MLA Vedhavyas Kamath said, "This is a unique effort from the Mangaluru City Police to curb the drug menace. Awareness against drug menace is essential. The menace should be curbed from its roots.”
Cash prizes were given away to the winners of the short video competition and the poster making competition.
Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal welcomed.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Shashidhar Shetty, Praveen Chandra Alva, A C Vinayaraj and others were present.
Several students from different colleges of city took part in the walkathon. Walkathon culminated at the Mangala Stadium.
