Udupi, Oct 31: Renowned writer, journalist Shekar Ajekar passed away on Tuesday October 31 due to cardiac arrest.
Shekar Ajekar was actively involved in various social service oriented organisations and also a known name in the literature fraternity.
Hailing from Ajekar in Karkala, Shekar started his journey as the scribe in weekly paper Kundaprabha. He has also served in 'Karnataka Malla' of Mumbai, Janavahini, Daijiworld, Kannada Prabha and Usha Kirana. He was also the vice-president of Udupi branch of Patrakarthara Vedike Bengaluru for 10 years. He had also written 22 books and had been organising state level film festivals in Karnataka.
He was conferred Udupi district Rajyotsava award, National Basavashree ward 2018, Amantran award 2019, Krishika Bandhu 2019, National Sangolli Rayanna award, Udupi district Kannada sahitya award 2019, Vishwa Darshan Sahitya Puraskar 2019 and Tulunada Madhya Siri award 2019. He had been conferred with Akhila Bharath Agni Shikha Manch award in 1995 for his contribution to journalism.
Shekar Ajekar held a post-graduate degree from Mumbai Somayya College of Management and MA degree from Mumbai University.
