Kundapur, Oct 23: Three youths lost their lives in two separate drowning incidents that occurred at Arbettu of Hirehole under Kabbinale and Belura gram panchayat limits of Hebri.
Two youths who went to swim in Mattavu Falls at Kabbinale met watery grave, while one youth slipped and fell into rivulet at Arbettu.
In the incident that occurred at Kabbinale Mattavu Falls, an engineering student Prasthuth Hegde (21) from Hutturke and his friend Umesh Kumar (45), a resident of Karje lost their lives.
Prasthuth and Umesh went to swim in Mattavu Falls at 2 pm on October 21 and died on the spot as they slipped, it is said. As Prasthuth Hegde did not return home till late, his family members called him on his mobile phone. But he did not receive the calls. When they tried tracing his mobile phone, it showed Kabbinale Mattavu as location. When fire service personnel and police searched for the mortal remains, they were found late in the night. Prasthuth is survived by parents and brother.
In another incident that occurred on Sunday evening at Arbettu rivulet near the railway bridge of Konabage under Beloor gram panchayat limits, local resident Prashant Acharya (24) slipped and fell into the rivulet and died.
Prashanth has been to the rivulet to wash his legs. As the inflow of water was more, it is said, he was stuck in the current and later drowned. Prashanth was working as medical representative for the past three months.
Eshwar Malpe arrived for search of mortal remains of the youth. The body was found a few meters away from the spot of drowning.
Prashanth is from a poor family. His father Keshava Acharya is a carpenter and got his two children educated in spite of poverty. Now, the son, who was the pillar of the family is no more. His family is distraught. He is survived by parents and brother.
