Mangalore, Aug 25: A delegation of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) met city police commissioner, Seemant Kumar Singh here on Wednesday August 24 and handed over a memorandum in connection with the rave party that alleged Bajrang Dal activists had attacked and vandalised in Ullal a few days ago.
Through the memorandum, DYFI has alleged that the raiding gang had robbed cash and jewellery from the spot, and urged the police to arrest the culprits and take stern action against them.
“A small section of the society has been taking up law into its hand in the guise of conserving moral values. These gangs openly indulge in criminal activities and incite the feelings of some sections of the society. They also escape from legal action by using political clout and muscle power,” the memorandum explains.
Reminding the police that organizations like Bajrang Dal have given rise to a number of incidents of communal violence and frictions in the past through their moral policing activities, DYFI has asked the police to wake up to the seriousness of the situation and act fact. “Because of timely action of the police, such incidents had become less in recent times. Acts of organizations following principles of religious intolerance have been creating trouble once again. There is an immediate need to rein in such activities,” the memorandum explains.
DYFI has demanded for the arrest of Sharan Pumpwell and other Bajrang Dal activists indulging in such raids, and initiation of strictest possible steps against them. It said that such an action will give a warning signal to other religious fundamentalist organizations which take law into their hands. The delegation comprised DYFI district president, Munir Katipalla, district secretary, Dayanand Shetty, leaders, Mahabala Deppalimar, B K Imtiaz, Santosh Bajal, and others.
