Bengaluru, Oct 13: Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Friday claimed that he started his business dealings through poultry farming and had undergone a 15-day course on poultry farming at the Veterinary College in Hebbal during his PUC holidays.
"I started a poultry farm at Sunkadakatte-Hegganahalli by obtaining loans from banks after the training. I had to discontinue the business after suffering losses,’’ he said while participating in the World Egg Day celebrations at the Veterinary College at Hebbal.
However, he said his parents later established five sheds in the family land, which were managed by him and his brother.
Shivakumar said he and his brother had to give up the business as they were busy with other activities.
He admitted that he has intimate knowledge about poultry farming as well as the ups and downs in the chicken and egg trade due to various factors.
He promised to take up the issue of the problems of the poultry farmers as well as veterinary colleges and said the government will try to find out a suitable solution to the problems.
Confessing that he has given up eating meat and started on a vegetarian diet due to health and religious issues, Shivakumar said the government will protect the interests of meat eaters as vegetarian and non-vegetarian food are part of life.
