Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)
Udupi, Aug 23: Less than a week ago, Daijiworld had reported in these columns that Abdul Azeed, a native of Kodikanyana near Brahmavar in the district, had been languishing in a jail in Saudi Arabia for two years for no fault of his.
Much to the relief of all those who know him and those who prayed for him, it is now learnt that he has been released.
On Monday August 22, Azeed contacted his family over phone to convey that he had been released, and that he was presently put up in the home of a relative.
Azeed went to Saudi Arabia a few months after his marriage, and joined duty as a tanker driver there. On a fateful day shortly thereafter, the axle blade of his tanker snapped, and a car coming from behind, hit his vehicle. The car was immediately engulfed in flames, and two persons, who were inside the car, died instantly.
Azeed was jailed, even though he was not to be blamed for this accident. The local court ordered him to remain in jail or to pay around Rs 25 lac to secure his release.
This information was given by a relative of Azeed, who talked to the ill-fated tanker driver over phone. The family members expect him to call them again today to give further details. There is also the likelihood of his arriving at his home by tomorrow, although exact details are not yet known.
