Udupi, Oct 11: Devaraj T V, police inspector of Manipal police station upon receiving information that firecrackers were illegally stored at Raghuram General stores, Parkala raided the shop in the company of Udupi tahsildar Bheemsen, Udupi fire brigade assistant fire officer Meer Mohammed Ghouse and Manipal police staff Nagesh Nayak ASI, Shailesh ASI and Arun.
They found that various firecrackers were stored in cardboard boxes in a 30 X 20 feet room. The shop owner, Shivaprasad Takur (43) of Herga village has confessed that the crackers were stored without permission. He was told by the officials that storage of crackers without license was illegal.
Crackers weighing 766 kilos valued at about Rs 1,26,700 were confiscated by the officials. FSL experts were also summoned to the spot. The goods were then confiscated with their help.
