Mangalore: Serial Thieves Strike Again - Five Shops Looted

Mangalore, Aug 21: The continuing spate of thefts rocking the region has had the police worried. In a fresh case of serial theft reported from Suratkal near here, as many as five shops were looted in a single night.
On Sunday August 21, thieves targetted a jewellery store, two mobile shops and two cloth stores, leaving the citizens in a state of anxiety.
The thieves reportedly fled with 500 grams of gold apat from silver ornaments from a jewellery store in Krishnapura Road in Suratkal. However, police have not yet confirmed the quantity stolen.
Mobile phones were stolen by the thieves from the mobile shop located on the Market Road. It is also said that some clothes from the 2 clothes shops were also stolen.
A group of people who were preaparing for Shree Krishna Janmashtami celebrations at night near the area said that they did not see anything suspicious till midnight, and hence the police believe the thieves may have struck in th wee hours of Sunday August 21 at around 3 am.
The thefts came to light only on Sunday morning at around 7 am after people noticed that the shutters of the shops were pried open. Surathkal SI, police officers, fingerprint experts, and a dog squad were pressed into service.
Speaking to daijiworld Belliyappa, circle inspector, Suratkal said investigations are on and that the burglars will soon be caught.
