Bantwal: Serial Theft Cases Now Hit Ukkuda

Bantwal, Aug 20: Two thefts have been reported in the region, this time from Ukkuda of Vittal Kasba village in the taluk here on Friday August 19 night. As per reports, cash and valuables worth lacs have been stolen.
The cases are two of a series of thefts that have hit the region over the past two months.
The thieves first targeted a house belonging to Mohammed Razaq. They broke open the front door and got away with Rs 30,000 cash kept in the locker. The thieves also ransacked the place in search of jewellery.
Thieves also broke into Mohammed Sharif’s house located close to Razaq’s and stole Rs 95,000 cash and 19 pound gold.
Sharif’s father Haji Kunhi Monu is a treasurer in Ukkuda Mosque Committee. He had kept Rs 70000 cash belonging to the committee’s treasury with him. Apart from this cash that was stolen, Rs 25000 cash was also taken. Both these theft cases reported have taken place between 7pm and 10 pm, it is learnt.
The residents of the houses in question had been away to visit relatives since it is the month of Ramadan. The incident came to light only after they returned home at 10 pm.
Vitla Sub-Inspector Rakshith rushed to the spot on Friday night along with a dog squad, finger print experts. On Saturday morning, district SP Laburam, Puttur SP Rohini Katoch came to the spot.
Theft cases have repeatedly been reported in areas like Vittal, Bantwal, BC Road and Saletthor vicinity since 2 months. The police have not been able to trace the culprits. But now with the theft cases reported in Ukkuda too citizens are left insecured.
SP Laburam assured the immediate arrest of thieves. An investigation into all the cases has been initiated and they will be soon be arrested, he said.
