Dubai, Oct 3: Melwyn Cornelio, a youth leader, former president of St Xavier’s College Union in Mumbai, and a community leader from Kakkunje, Kallianpur, has been unanimously elected as the new president of Karaval Milan for the years 2023-2025. He succeeds the outgoing president, Charles Mascarenhas, from Kolalgiri.
Similarly, Prakash Rebello from Anagally, Kundapur, has been elected as the vice-president, Goldina D’Souza of Perampalli parish as the youth convenor, and Alban D'Silva from Trasi, Kundapur, as the treasurer. The new committee election was held under the guidance and leadership of Karaval Milan’s director, Wilson D'Sa, and its founder president, Charles Mascarenhas.
Karaval Milan is an association of various parishioners of the Udupi diocese residing in the UAE, well-known for its cultural, sports, and charity activities. The association is celebrating 23 years of successful existence, having organized numerous community-building events, sports meets, and support for the Udupi diocese.
The new team induction program was held during the Monthi Festh Celebration of Karaval Milan on 10/09/2023, in Dubai. The induction program was attended by the office-bearers and new members. Karaval Milan member Alban D'Silva, who was honored as Outstanding Parishioner of St Mary’s Church Dubai by the Bishop of UAE, was also recognized during the event for his outstanding services to the community.
In his first speech as president, Melwyn Cornelio thanked all members for their trust in his abilities. He shared his vision to take Karaval Milan to new heights with sports and cultural events, focusing on the interests of the younger generation of the Udupi Diocese. He also encouraged the recruitment of new members from Udupi district who are in the UAE.
Monthi Festh was celebrated with traditional fervor at Karaval Milan Director Wilson D'Sa’s residence in Dubai.
