Sullia, Aug 18: We have heard of policemen launching operations to find out the culprits in cases of theft, and failing most of the time. But here is a thief who has chosen to return the cash he had stolen from a well-known temple.
The supervisor of the museum of Lord Kukke Subrahmanyeshwara in Subrahmanya received two envelopes on Tuesday August 16, which were sent by a thief along with letters. To these letters, the alleged thief had attached 29 currency notes. In his letters, he had also apologised for committing theft at the temple, and sought punishment from the Lord for his crime, apart from pledging to correct himself.
On Wednesday, another letter with the same content was received, with 12 more currency notes said to have been stolen from the temple. The address of the sender has been given as T G Raju, Kyatasandra, Tumkur.
All these currency notes are rare Indian and foreign currency notes preserved at the said museum. During last week, unknown persons had entered the museum by breaking open the door of the library of the temple, and stolen these currency notes. A case had been filed in Subrahmanya police station in this regard.
This is said to be the first instance in the region, in which a thief has returned everything he had stolen. The thief could have earned lot of money if he had sold the currency notes to a numismatist. But he seems to have become remorseful after stealing these notes. These currency notes were handed over by the concerned to the temple executive officer, H M Kali.
