Omaha, Sep 12: Indian Catholics from Nebraska whose roots are from Mangaluru, Goa, and Mumbai celebrated their first annual Monthi Fest and Bandra Fair on September 9 at the chapel in lower St John’s Parish (Creighton), Omaha. The Indian Catholic group was initiated by Ian Severes and Anne Severes, and they have been instrumental in keeping this group running and having Monthly get-togethers. The community, though small here, is blessed to have the help and guidance of a good number of Indian and Sri Lankan priests.
The celebration started with Delaney Michael and Ian Valder giving a short Introduction about Monthi Fest and Bandra Fest.
Fr Nicholas Santos SJ welcomed the guests. The first and second readings were read by Anita D’Souza and Ian Severes. Fr Amit D’Ssouza SJ celebrated the Holy Mass and delivered an energetic and highly inspiring homily.
When young children offered flowers to Mother Mary, Fr Elvin Cardozo SJ played the tunes for ‘Moriye Hogolsiyan’ and ‘Sakkad Sangatha Melyan’.
Fr Mahesh Nayak SJ blessed the food that was prepared and bought by the members and guests who attended the celebration.
Kids and elders had fun participating in fun games and ring toss and Fr Mario Repose sponsored the gifts for the games.
It was a fun filled, joyous, and entertaining get-together bringing nostalgic memories of the Bandra Fest and Monthi Fest celebrations.
