Colombo, Aug 10: India has snatched the world champions title from Australia, and now its Sri Lanka's turn to grab Australia's No 1 spot in the one day form of cricket. It’s not an easy task, but certainly not impossible.
Sri Lanka will do everything to reach the top spot on Wednesday when they play in the first of the five ODI matches against Australia.
With 130 points Australia is on top now, Sri Lanka is in the second spot with 118 points. On the other hand India is just one point behind Sri Lanka with 117 points. If Sri Lanka can beat Australia with 4-1 margin then, Lanka will jump to the top spot with 125 points, and Australia will come down to 124. Looking at their 20-20 form, it’s not impossible for Sri Lanka.
Fast bowler Lasith Malinga, opener Upul Taranga, and middel order batsman Chamara Silva is back in Sri Lankan 16-member squad for ODIs. These three players were not among T20 team. 26-year-old left arm fast bowler Chaminda Eranga is the only new face in the Lankan squad.
