Mangaluru: Labourer dies after compound wall collapses during drainage work

Mangaluru, Aug 31: A labourer died as the compound wall of a house collapsed on him while he was digging soil for underground drainage work at sixth block of Krishnapura on Wednesday August 30.

The deceased is identified as Hanif (46), a resident of Karambaru in Bajpe.

Though other labourers pulled out Hanif, who was stuck below the collapsed compound wall and rushed him to the hospital he could not be saved.

Another labourer of Uttara Kannada origin was also injured and was admitted to the hospital.

A case in this connection is filed in Suratkal police station.

    Like many other cities, underground drainage and storm water drains should be at the edge of the road away from the compound wall. Here drainage is usually in the middle of the road ( so even concrete roads are repeatedly cut and dug up - otherwise how will the contractors earn!!)and storm water drain near the compound wall.
