Mangaluru: Full day classes for students on Saturdays from September

Mangaluru, Aug 29: The deputy director of district education department instructed all schools in Dakshina Kannada district to hold full day classes from September first week for 14 Saturdays.

It may be recalled, due to incessant rains, seven days holidays were declared by the deputy commissioner in the month of July for schools.

In order to make up for the lost days, this decision is taken as per the information provided by the DDPI.

    I studied in Mumbai and there we had half day schools. In Karnataka, we have almost full day schools. Not sure, Karnataka government wants to make each students an IITian. Some of the periods are free in the schools. Children can come home and have hot lunch instead of having it in the schools. In Mumbai, primary students would report to school at 1 PM after their lunch and secondary students i.e. after 5th would go to school in the morning and come back home by 1 PM.

    if any employees of District education department were given off for the "incessant" rains, then they should be made to work full Saturdays too!

    Fail to understand why there is so much pressure on children. Why cant there be a balance wherein children also get to enjoy their childhood. In UAE children have 4.5 days school yet they are able to cover the syllabus, and yes it is CBSE which is same across.

    Schools don't need to work full day on Saturdays. They can cover the portion without extra classes.Half the time is wasted by conducting class tests almost everyday. Instead they should have 1 exam every month. Kids should enjoy their childhood. Rain holidays were given for their safety but by compensating it, they are putting burden on the kids and teachers who are already suffering from the education system.

    Students can avail this benefit of the lost time due to the recent rain.at least Sunday than relax and enjoy the weekend. Brain is adapted to that special sunday rest day.Nothing is impossible but everything is not possible.Children are the future.

    The children are lucky that there was no incessant rain in the month of August, otherwise the children would have class on Sunday. Suprising that a lot of rain holidays these days for any alert yellow orange or red.
