Mangaluru, Aug 20: The Sowjanya Horata Samiti Mangaluru organized a massive protest under the initiative of activist Prasanna Ravi, seeking justice for the brutal rape and murder of Sowjanya.
The protest took place at Kadri Grounds here on Sunday, August 20.
Speaking on the occasion, activist Mahesh Shetty Thimarody said, "We are seeking justice irrespective of caste, religion, and community for the brutal injustices done to Sowjanya."
"In this case, an innocent was sent to jail. We should be ashamed that after independence, there is no justice, law, politics, and humanity. For 11 years, we have been demanding justice. The culprits who committed this crime are still roaming freely in society," Shetty said.
He further stated that if the representatives fail to provide justice to Sowjanya, the people will take justice into their own hands and hold massive agitations.
Mahesh Shetty also alleged that the then investigation officer closed this case and criticized politicians for their failure to deliver justice.
Prasanna Ravi, convener of Horata Samithi, said, "As a mother, I can understand the pain of another mother who lost her child in a heinous crime. The mother of the little child has been fighting for justice for 11 years."
She also urged the police department to identify individuals who use fake IDs to post abusive comments and questioned why Members of Parliament, regardless of political parties, have failed to address the issue of the gang rape of a young girl to the union government.
During the event, college students launched a Twitter campaign to demand justice for Sowjanya.
Speaking on the occasion, Sowjanya's mother, Kusumavathi Gowda, said, "People should join hands to provide justice for my daughter. I have confidence that we will get justice."
Yogi Sri Sri Nirmalnath Swamiji of Jogi Math was also present during the occasion.
