Mangaluru: Independence Day celebrations galore at Carmel School

Mangaluru, Aug 16: The Independence Day programme held on August 14 was a remarkable event that brought together individuals from diverse backgrounds to commemorate the significance of this historic occasion. The event was designed to honour the spirit of freedom, promote unity and celebrate the cultural heritage of the nation.

The event commenced with a grand guest reception at the entrance of the venue. They were welcomed with resounding tunes of the school band followed by the traditional Indian welcome.

Following the reception, a special prayer service centered on the theme of 'We Are One' was held. This unique prayer service began with a conversation between a tree and its branches, symbolizing the interconnectedness and collective strength of the community and then prayers were offered for the prosperity of the beloved country, seeking harmony, growth, and abundance for all. Following the prayer service, a mesmerizing welcome dance performance took center stage. Welcome dance, with its fusion of Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Odissi, and Yakshagana, has not only captivated audiences but also played a significant role in preserving and promoting these traditional dance forms. A welcome speech delivered by Arwa of Class X, set the tone for the rest of the programme, encouraging everyone to come together and celebrate the diversity that unites Indians.

To deepen the understanding of the importance of Independence Day, a segment is dedicated to highlighting the significance of the day. It served as a reminder of the historical events that led to the establishment of our nation. The presentation highlighted the struggles, sacrifices, and triumphs of the freedom fighters, underscoring the importance of preserving and cherishing hard-earned independence. The highlight of the program was a captivating dance drama performance titled 'We Are One'. Portraying the message of unity and harmony. The dance drama portrayed the struggles faced during the independence movement, the vision of founding leaders, and the progress made as a nation. It served as a reminder that unity is strength and that embracing diversity enhances collective growth. The performance left the audience spellbound, instilling a sense of pride and patriotism.

To further celebrate the multicultural fabric of the nation, a vibrant tribal dance performance took place.Dancers adorned in vibrant costumes took the stage, magnetizing the audience with their rhythmic movements to soul-stirring music. The energetic performances reflected the rich cultural heritage of various tribes, leaving the audience in awe.

In the midst of the performances, an awarding ceremony took place to recognize the talents and efforts of students, the winners were honoured with certificates and medals, motivating them to continue their pursuit of excellence.

The chief guest Commander Claud Lobo, commanding officer, 05 kar Naval NCC unit Mangaluru, an eminent personality delivered an enlightening speech. The guest speaker emphasized that education is the cornerstone of progress and the key to unlocking one's potential. Students were encouraged to value their education as a powerful tool that would enable them to pursue their dreams and make a positive impact on society and the nation. The speaker delved into historical importance and significance of Independence Day and stressed on the importance of nurturing and preserving the hard-earned freedom, as well as the responsibility each citizen bears in shaping the nation's future.

The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Jenisha Sequeira of class X, expressing gratitude to all participants, volunteers, and attendees for their valuable contributions. The programme was hosted by grade XB and Yuva Club of Carmel School. The event was compered by Huda Abdul Qayyum and Hiba Anam.

The programme served as a reminder of the importance of unity, diversity, and the continuous effort required protecting and upholding the ideals of independence. It left a lasting impact on all attendees, inspiring them to contribute towards the progress and welfare of India.

Various competitions were held to imbibe the value of unity and patriotism among the students on the occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav carrying the theme tribal empowerment.
