Mangaluru: St Agnes High School students taken to field trip

Mangaluru, Aug 11: On August 9, the students of class 10 of St Agnes High School were taken to the field trip as a part of service learning project. The students visited the agricultural field of Walter Saldanha at Merlapadav. It provided an exposure to the natural setting of the village.

Walter Saldanha an experienced as well as progressive farmer, demonstrated the rain and kitchen grey water harvesting. and the rice mill for stoneless rice. The old farm equipments, handheld implements and traditional wooden kitchen accessories were a delight to watch. 

The students raised questions like fertilizers used, benefits of farming and even the problems faced by the farmers. Walter Saldanha cleared all their doubts patiently. He even explained planting techniques, crop rotation and the importance of soil fertility for successful farming.

The students observed different vegetables grown in the farm. They enthusiastically transplanted paddy in the field which was an unforgettable experience. The field trip provided the students with valuable practical knowledge and deeper understanding of paddy cultivation.

The visit brought home the message of love and hospitality experienced in the rural household. Teachers Dimple Quadros, Preethi Vas, and Suneetha M took initiative to arrange the field trip.
