Mangaluru, Aug 2: During a meeting held on Tuesday, August 1, Daiji members settled in India unanimously selected Praveen Tauro as the convenor of the unit. His name was proposed by Melvyn Rodrigues, seconded by Hemacharya, both founding members of the forum in Dubai. Also another founder member and managing director of Daijiworld Media Group Walter Nandalike was present.
During the meeting, besides the founding members, senior writer and former convenor of Daijidubai writers forum in the UAE, Ronald Nazareth was inducted to the governing council. They will assist the convenor in successful planning and implementation of Konkani centric programmes in coordination with the parent organisation in Dubai.
Accordingly few points for action were planned viz revival of Daiji Trust in India, Varado-wise Konkani programmes for rural Konkani children at the root level such as 'Aaj Ami Konkani Ulavyam', visits to ailing Konkani legends and institutions and such.
During the meeting, Hemacharya who initiated the meeting, recalled the contribution of Vincent Pinto as the convenor and thanked him on behalf of all the members.
Also other Konkani centric programmes focussing on literature (poetry, story writing and poetry recital) stage performance, Konkani workshops were planned.
Stany Bela, well-known film director and Daijiworld TV production manager offered to train young talents from rural areas in Performing Arts.
Walter Nandalike proposed to move out to the villages and train children/youth/their parents on different areas of culture and art. This includes talk shows to children and parents on certain ethics and attributes. He has agreed to conduct talk shows on such topics in different varados of the diocese. Also the possibility of involving friendly priests from different parishes and using parish/diocese level facilities were discussed.
A prominent Konkani programme shall be held in 2024 on the occasion of Daijidubai completing 25 years as a tribute to all the Konkani stalwart writers, singers, musicians who have passed away since the year 2019.
The Konkani writers now in fragile health were remembered during the meeting.
Praveen Tauro thanked all the members of Daiji movement for his selection and pledged his unstinted effort for the progress of the movement.
