Mangaluru: DC instructs public to remove names of deceased family members from ration card

Mangaluru, Jul 29: Though some members of family have died, their names are not removed from the list of the names on the ration card.

In the district of Dakshina Kannada, it has come to light that names of 13,133 beneficiaries is still continuing on the ration card though they are no more.

In a circular of DC office, it is notified that the names of deceased should be immediately removed from the ration card by presenting the death certificate to the taluk office.

It is a crime not to remove the names of deceased and taking benefits in their name from the government. Such people will be made ineligible as per law, stated the circular.

    This work can be done direct from their Panchayat too.Once when one dies ,should be registerd in Panchayat.To register let them bring their Aadhar card from a family member and immediately Panchayat member should give them either new card without deceased ones name.Or death is not all noted down or noone tells?Second option is every year they do this counting of family members during election ?WHY not during this time ,only living members or present members are counted ,not dead ones?Dont wait villagers to come to your feet.Istead you go to them?

    Corruption is running in the veins of the society... No point blaming the politicians and public employees alone... Honesty and respect for others' privileges start from each household... Unless units of society become non corrupt and develop right integrity we will continue to remain at the bottom of the honesty ladder....
