Dharwad, Jul 27: The plight of students studying in government first grade women’s degree college in the city is pathetic. They have to hold umbrellas while listening to lectures as the roof is leaking badly.
In total, 343 students are studying in the college which has BA, BSc, BCom, BFT and home science courses. Even the lecturers of this college are very good in teaching. But the scary part is that the walls and roof are in dilapidated condition and may collapse anytime.
This is the only government women’s degree college in Dharwad. All students who study here are from poor financial background and come from rural areas. The results of this college are excellent. But the structure in which these students are made to learn is precarious.
When it rains, the water flows on the blackboard and rubs whatever is written by the lecturer. The classroom is filled with dirty water. Tiles of the roof are broken which causes the rain water to seep in from the roof.
According to the strength of the college, 35 classrooms are required. However, the institution has only 12 rooms. It is said that plan for new building is already submitted to the education department. However, approval is not yet received according to principal of the college Dr Saraswati Kalasad.
