Mangaluru/Udupi, Jul 24: Due to high rainfall in the district, and a possibility of high water levels in the rivers and streams, a holiday has been declared in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts for schools and colleges on Tuesday, July 25.
The respective deputy commissioners of has ordered closure of all schools and undergraduate colleges in the twin districts.
The disaster management authority has taken certain precautions as heavy rain has been pounding here during the last 21 hours.
Holiday has been declared for Anganwadis, primary and high schools, pre university and degree colleges including government, aided and unaided private schools.
In an order issued later, Udupi DC Dr k Vidyakumari extended the holiday to all the post graduate, diploma, engineering, and ITI colleges of the district as well.
Parents are asked to ensure that children do not go to low lying areas, lakes, sea shore and river sides. The fishermen too have been warned aginst venturing into water. Taluk level officers have been asked to remain at the headquarters compulsorily. Nodal officers appointed for various positions by the district administration have been asked to be alert and respond to public complaints. The tahsildar have been directed to be in constant contact.

Meanwhile, DC Dr K Vidyakumari has issued a warning due to the residents tourists continuous rainfall in Udupi district, which has resulted in high waves in the sea and overflowing rivers and ditches.
As a precautionary measure, both residents and tourists are strictly prohibited from approaching beaches, rivers, and waterfalls and are advised against taking photos and videos in these areas.
