Mumbai, Jul 21: The Mumbai edition of the Konkani Natak Sabha’s (KNS) 59th signing competition was held on July 16 at Fatima School Auditorium, Vidyavihar West Mumbai. The competition was conducted by KNS Mangaluru, supported by Konkan Association Charitable (KAC) Trust, Mumbai.
It was a monumental event in the history of KNS which began with KNS anthem. Liston D’Souza vice president of KNS welcomed the participants and gathering. Dr Rocky D’Cunha president of KNS gave his message to the competitors and wished them good luck.
The competition was inaugurated by lighting the lamp. Leo Fernandes Jerimeri, president of KAC Trust Mumbai, Liston D’Souza, Floyd D'Mello, general secretary KNS, Cletus Lobo, assistant secretary of KNS, and Gerald Concessao, treasurer of KNS were accompanied by Dr Rocky D’Cunha for lighting the lamp.
As many as 212 participants took part in 12 categories of the singing competition conducted for the age groups 5 to 10 years, 10 to 15 Years, 15 to 45 years and above 45 years.
KNS manager Boniface Pinto, managing committee members Joseph Theodore and James D’Souza assisted in conducting the competition, and special support was rendered by Vincent Castelino Mumbai.
Renowned singers Nephie Rod, Reena D’Souza from Mumbai, Jude Fernandes, Sylvia Fernandes and Ivan Sequeira from Mangaluru officiated as judges for the competition.
During the caledictory programme, Fr Leo D'Monte, OFM Cap, assistant provincial superior of Maharashtra-Goa Capuchin province was present as chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners.
All the participants were given participation certificates and the winners were awarded with merit certificate and trophy.
As a part of the 80th year celebration of KNS, three veterans singers and composers from Mumbai were honoured. On July 15, KNS’ executive committee members visited ‘Yea Yea Cathrina’ fame Sangeeth Samrat Henry D’Souza and popular singer and composer Timothy Serrao and felicitated him. On July 16, Konkan Keer Lawrence Saldanha was felicitated by KNS for his contribution to Konkani music during the valedictory programme.
Floyd D'Mello compered the programme, announced the results and proposed a vote of thanks.
