Bengaluru, Jul 17: Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, who is also the State Congress President, said the coming together of all opposition parties is a good beginning in the interests of the country and to protect democracy.
Addressing media persons along with AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal and AICC Media Cell Convenor Jariram Ramesh in Bengaluru on Monday, Shivakumar said the opposition conclave which will have leaders from 24 national and regional opposition parties will discuss a plan of action for facing the tough challenges ahead of the country.
The deputy chief minister said the opposition parties will strive to achieve the Karnataka model for bringing down the Narendra Modi regime at the national level by focussing on the problems faced by the 140 crore citizens.
Shivakumar said the opposition conclave which will also be attended by Congress leader Sonia Gandhi assumes importance and also security concerns. The entry to the private hotel, Taj West End, is restricted to the invited leaders and their delegates.
He appealed to the people not to crowd the hotel or the airport to receive the leaders as even a few State Ministers and leaders have been given passes. All others are requested to keep off the airport or the hotel, he said.
