Udupi, Jul 15: The district administration conducted raids on shops selling banned plastic at various places in the district. The officers seized 107.81 kg plastic and collected a fine of Rs 47,500 from June 26 till July 15.
As much as 41.87 kg of plastic was seized and Rs 24,000 fine was imposed at Malpe. 29.44 kg of plastic was confiscated and Rs 10,500 fine was imposed at Parkala on June 28. Raids were conducted on July 15 on shops selling banned plastic near Sri Krishna Math. As much as 36.5 kg plastic was seized and Rs 12,500 fine was imposed.
The environmental engineer of the municipal council, senior health officer, junior health officer, sanitary supervisor and civic workers took part in the operation.
Municipal commissioner has warned that the trade licences of business concerns will be cancelled and a fine will be imposed on them if they are found using banned plastic.
