Udupi, July 10: The principal CJ and JMFC court has sentenced two men accused of breaking open a temple door and stealing jewellery in the temple to two-and-a-half years of imprisonment and a penalty of Rs 5,500 each.
Narasimharaju alias Basavaraju alias Raju and Mohammed Shabbir had broken open the door of sanctum sanctorum (Garba Gudi) of Mahalasa Narayani Devi Temple, Shirur village, Udupi on September 21, 2015 and stolen gold ornaments worth Rs 8,66,800 weighing 339.940 grams from there.
Udupi city police inspector had registered a case and submitted a chargesheet against the accused to the court.
CJ and JMFC court judge Deepa who heard the case slapped a jail term of two years and six months on each of the accused men and ordered them to pay a fine of Rs 5,500 each.
Public prosecutor Jayanti K argued the case in favour of the government.
