Udupi, July 7: District sessions court has sentenced Abdul Azeez, a retired government official, holding property disportionate to his known sources of income to one year of simple imprisonment and levied a fine of Rs 1 lac.
The then P I K U Belliappa had gathered details and filed a police complaint against the accused Abdul Azeez for amassing wealth beyond his known sources of income when he was the Kundapura zonal forest officer.
The then Mangaluru division S P Dharmaraj A G had registered a case and obtained a search warrant from the Udupi district sessions court to search the residence of the accused. The SP and Udupi DySP in charge searched the residence and the bank locker of the accused.
Lokayukta Dy SP Prabhudeva B Mane, collected details of the property held by the accused, completed the investigation on time and submitted the report to the authority.
Lokayuktha DySP Sadananda Varnekar had filed a chargesheet against the accused to the court.
District sessions court judge Shantaveera Shivappa who heard the case and got convinced of the guilt sentenced the accused Abdul Azeez to an year of simple imprisionment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lac on him under Section 13(1) ( e), 13 (2) IPC Act 1988.
Abdul Azeez is retired at present. Special public prosecutor T Vijay Kumar Shetty argued the case in favour of the government.
