Udupi, July 4: “It has been raining across the district for the last few days. The meteorological department has forecast rainfall in the future. Therefore, the taluk tahsildar and the block education officer have been authorised to declare a holiday for educational institutions as a precautionary measure whenever it is essential,” said Udupi deputy commissioner Kurma Rao in a press release.
“The attendance of students cannot be considered as compulsory in Anganwadis, schools, colleges and institutes of higher education. Students who have to cross difficult paths, such as streams have been asked to remain at their homes for safety. Lessons cannot be conducted in weak and dilapidated buildings. As a large number of students have been affected by floods, holidays should be declared whenever necessary and the lost days should be compensated by holding lessons on Saturdays and Sundays. The parents and teachers of students should ensure that their children do not go to low lying areas, ponds, river sides and sea sides," he said.
"Students should be informed and educated about managing natural calamities. The toll free number 107708202574802 can be contacted during issues concerning natural calamities,” he stated.
