Mangaluru, Jul 4: The respective district administrations of the twin districts have declared a holiday for the schools and pre-university colleges of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi on Wednesday, July 5 in wake of the heavy downpour that is lashing these areas.
DK and Udupi's respective deputy commissioners Mullai Mugilan and Kurma Rao, in concurrence with the District Disaster Management Authority, have declared the holiday for all Anganwadi centres, government and private primary and high schools and pre-university colleges on July 5.
In addition, instructions are given for public to safeguard against dangers that may arise due to continuous rains. Parents are instructed to prevent their children from going near low lying areas filled with water, ponds, river banks and beaches.
Nodal officers nominated by the district administration should be alert 24x7 and respond to public grievances immediately and be in touch with control room of DC office. The department officials concerned have been instructed to open grievance centres in every taluk and be ready to deal with any situation.
The Udupi DC had assigned the tahsildars and Block Education Officers (BEO) the responsibility of making a decision regarding school closures. However, due to the relentless rain situation in the district, Kurma Rao has taken the decision to declare a holiday for schools and pre-university colleges on June 5, 2023.
An official order regarding the holiday will be issued shortly by the Udupi DC, ensuring that students and staff members can stay safe amidst the challenging weather conditions.
