Mangaluru, Jul 2: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has directed NHAI officials and MCC authorities to expedite the process of clearing trees, electricity poles, and water pipelines within a week to prepare for the construction of flyovers at Nanthoor and KPT junctions.
Nalin made these remarks during the Disha committee meeting held on Saturday at the auditorium of the zilla panchayat.
Highlighting the importance of timely completion, Nalin mentioned that any delay in the clearing work could result in the contractor requiring more time and increased tender value. Therefore, the initial tasks must be executed promptly.
Nalin also instructed the DC to convene a meeting every 15 days to evaluate the progress of all NHAI-related projects.
"During monsoon, we must ensure that the public does not face inconvenience due to highway work. If the Brahmastana at Brahmarakootlu is relocated, a four-lane road must be constructed in that area. Until then, the service road should be repaired. Barricades can be placed to prevent heavy vehicles from avoiding tolls," Nalin stated.
The MP further requested the removal of the structure of the old toll gate at NITK.
NHAI engineer Anirudda Kamath provided an update, stating, "Out of the 48.48 km highway work from B C Road to Periyashanti, 14.2 km has been completed, with a progress rate of 31.4%. The work on the 8.5 km stretch from Periyashanti to Addahole is 61% complete. These projects are expected to be completed by the end of 2023. The overbridge work at Kalladka is currently 34% complete, and it is projected to be finished by May 2024."
