Mangaluru, Jul 1: Every year, June 26 is observed as World Drug Day or International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking to create awareness about issues related to drugs and seek international cooperation to combat its effects on health, society, and governance. The theme of this year is 'People first:stop stigma and Discrimination , strengthen Prevention'. According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the motive is to combat misinformation by sharing real facts on drugs from health risks and solutions for the world drug problem to evidence-based prevention, treatment, and care.
On June 30, The National Service Scheme of INSTITUTE OF PORT SHIPPING AND LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT has been constituted to ensure a drug- free campus within and outside the campus, In association with International Day against Drug Abuse and Illict Trafficking on June 26,2023, the seminar was organized and the speakers were Mr. Hemanth Kumar and Mr. Shiva Prasad ,Police inspector , Narcotic drug cell, Criminal investigation department , Mangalore. . The programmer aimed at making our students aware of the dangers involved in drug abuse and to inform about the harmful effects of new psychoactive drugs.
Anamika student representative first year international business welcomed the gathering. She explained the importance of awareness and theme of the year. Hemanth Kumar, police inspector, CID, Mangaluru was the speaker of this programme, he emphasized the harmful effects and the risks associated with using alcohol and other drugs. He stressed the importance of awareness campaigns about drug abuse among students he also interacted with the students about the importance of campus community to prevent drug and alcohol related incidents. He points out the importance of Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts. He points out number of drug abuse incidents among students and how it affects one’s life and family. The session came to an end with the vote of thanks by Vimsha Student, first year logistics, she also gave a brief talk on drug abuse. She thanked the dean, coordinator, resource persons, organizing committee members, students, everyone who helped us in organizing the seminar successfully. The seminar attracted a significant attention among our students and faculty members. The entire session was an interactive session and the speakers answered many queries raised by the participants. The feedbacks from participants were encouraging.
The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr Sonia Noronha, dean, Institute of Port Shipping and Logistics Management (IPSLM), professor Nelson Pereira, HOD, BBA department, Institute of Port Shipping and Logistics Management (IPSLM). Professor Akshatha Eva Sampson, NSS coordinator, IPSLM organized the event.
