Udupi: MAHE celebrates International Day of Yoga

Udupi, Jun 22: The Division of Yoga, Centre for Integrative Medicine and Research (CIMR), Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) celebrated International Day of Yoga on June 21, coordinated by Division of Yoga. The event was witnessed by the guests Dr H S Ballal, pro chancellor, Dr Sharath Kumar Rao, pro vice vhancellor, Health Sciences, Dr P Giridhar Kini, registrar, MAHE, Manipal, Dr Satish Rao, director Research, MAHE and director, Manipal School of Life Sciences, MAHE, Manipal and Indira Ballal were present at the function.

The event started in Indoor Futsal Court, Marena Sports Complex, Manipal in the morning with Yoga demonstration and practice according to the UGC protocol. The campus community including Students, Staff, faculty, and nearby locality participated in this event. Further, with the articulation of yoga prayer, demonstrated various yogic practices including asanas (swastika, Vajra ,suptavajra, parivrta tada, trikona, veerabadhra, paschima, purvottanasan, janushirsha, pavanamukta, bhujanga, shalabha, dhanura, padottana, Vakra),pranayama (anulomaviloma, suryabedhana, bhramari) relaxation technique (makarasana,shavasana).

Dr Sharath Kumar Rao addressed the importance of International Day of Yoga celebration saying, “I urge each and every one of you to embrace the practice of yoga in your daily lives. As people from all walks of life recognize the impact on physical, mental, and spiritual health and yoga is for everyone."

Dr H S Ballal addressed the global importance of International Day of Yoga celebration. He said, “We are promoting Integrative medicine as holistic medicine in our hospital as per the requirement of government. In MAHE we practice all types of Medicine to treat patients for better health. He also expressed his opinion regarding people across the ages practicing yoga in today’s yoga session."

Prizes were distributed to the winners of the competitions (Asana, essay, poster, photo) by the guests of the event Dr P Giridhar Kini, registrar, MAHE. Indira Ballal, philanthropist, gave the felicitation honour to Shobha Shetty and Dr Dinesh M Nayak.

The event was coordinated by Division of Yoga, CIMR with Dr B S Satish Rao, director Research, MAHE, Manipal and Dr Annapoorna K, HOD, Division of Yoga, CIMR officials, students and staff.
