Varsity Vice-Chancellor Conferred Rank of NCC Honorary Col Commandant

Mangalore, Jul 20: Mangalore University vice-chancellor T C Shivashankar Murthy was conferred the rank of honorary colonel commandant of NCC at a glittering ceremony held at Senate Hall, Mangalore University here on Wednesday July 20.
Prof Murthy was among the seven vice-chancellors chosen from different parts of India for the rank of honorary colonel commandant.
NCC Mangalore group commander Colonel Dinesh P Nayakwade, Lt Colonel Alok Barmar, Dr Chinnappa Gowda, registrar of Mangalore University among others were present on the occasion.
Prof T C Shivashankara Murthy dedicated the honour to the students of NCC and the Mangalore University. Pointing out the role of NCC wing in the nation's security, he said that during Pakistan-India war, NCC was utilized as second-in-line military source. He sought the co-operation of parents to encourage their children to join NCC.
He recalled his early days in NCC and said that it was a moment of pride for him and for his father when his first photo in NCC uniform was taken. He has presereved the picture to this day, he added.
He also said that to be ranked as honorary colonel commandant of NCC was a dream come true.
Col Dinesh shed light on the activities and functioning of NCC in schools and colleges across the country.
Lt Rajesh, lecturer in Alva's College, Moodbidri welcomed and compered the programme.
