Mangaluru, Jun 8: St Aloysius Pre-University College celebrated World Environment Day on June 5, joining the global campaign to raise awareness about the importance of preserving the environment and minimizing the impact of human activities. This day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972, and has since been celebrated annually around the world.
The global theme for World Environment Day is 'Ecosystem Restoration' under the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution, emphasizing the need to restore forests, wildlife, rivers and oceans for a sustainable and livable planet. Students actively participated in the day's activities for valuable learning experiences, to understand the environmental issues affecting their local and global communities.
The Centre for Environmental Concern at SAPUC initiated 'One Plant per Class' drive where each batch adopted an indoor plant and committed to nurturing it. This initiative symbolizes the benefits of plants, including improving air quality, reducing stress levels, and enhancing productivity.
To further promote eco-friendliness for the students, clay pots and clay drain plates were introduced on campus as alternatives to plastic. Student members of the Centre for Environmental Concern conducted a prayer service and sang an awareness-raising song to highlight the environmental impact caused by excessive usage of plastic and how we can minimize it.

These activities serve as a reminder of the importance of preserving the natural world to ensure a better future for generations to come.
