Kaup, May 24: Police booked cases against four drivers and arrested them for rash driving and obstructing smooth flow of vehicular traffic on the National Highway 66.
On Monday, May 23, an informer called up PSI Suma of the Kaup police station and apprised her of the rash manner in which a jeep and three cars were being driven on NH-66 posing danger to other road users and citizens. A video of how the four vehicles were driven went viral on social media, the informant told the PSI. The informant urged the police to take stern action against the drivers after watching the video footage. The place from where the video footage went viral was identified to be within Kaup police jurisdiction along the highway from Moodabettu village to Mooluru village.
The drivers who have been arrested are Ayaan (24) a resident of Guddeyangady Udayavara village, Udupi who was driving a Creta, Mishaluddin (23), a resident of Kunjibettu, Udupi who was driving a Thar, Shanoon D’Souza (25), a resident of Haika Building, Udupi who was driving a fortuner and Vivek (23), a resident of Kodanthur, Udupi who was driving a Swift.
The Kaup police swiftly swung into action under the guidance of SP Akshay Machindra and seized all the four vehicles.
