Bantwal, May 21: The water level at the Netravati river has depleted completely this summer. Many stone formations, including the one which is believed to be the feet of Sita Devi, are visible on the riverbed near Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple of the taluk.
Though there are many curious formations on the riverbed, they could not be seen all these years due to the construction of many dams. As of this year, the river has dried up completely and these formations have surfaced.
There are a number of formations that include the Shivalinga, flowers, hair, plates, Nandi, feet etc that are inscribed on stone.
Locals have religious belief that the feet of Sita Devi seen here are actually that of Sita, wife of Lord Rama.
In addition, many pits of religious beliefs and Kayas are also seen this year. The different designs on stone are also an attractive sight.
