Beltangady, May 19: A herd of wild elephants entered the agricultural farms of Hosamata near Charmadi and destroyed the arecanut trees on Thursday May 18.
The herd which arrived from Charmady-Kanapady reserve forest via Mrityunjaya river demolished 114 arecanut trees on the farm belonging to Chandran of Hosamata, 36 trees of Sindhu Ravi’s farm and 33 trees of Purushotama’s farm land.
The forest department officials visited the spot, inspected the destruction and asked the farm owners to apply for compensation.
A lone tusker entered the farmland of Kiran Hebbar at Siribailu of Kadirudyavara village late night on Wednesday and destroyed more than 15 plantain plants. Another tusker had entered the farm of a onearby farmer two days ago but did not do much damage. Earlier On Wednesday evening, a lone tusker was seen standing on the road of Charmadi ghat and caused a massive traffic jam.
