Bengaluru, May 16: Caretaker Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai thanked the senior state government officials for extending full cooperation and support to his government in taking several bold decisions.
Speaking informally with the officials at a high-tea in Vidhana Soudha on Tuesday, he said in the administration, legislature and executive play important roles and all three wings work under the Constitution.
"We (elected members) come once in five years but you will be in power for a long time. Everyone must strive for the development of the State,’’ he said.
Karnataka is ahead in many issues such as the GST and in attracting investments. The role of officials is very important in the state's development. Let us all work for the all-round development of the State, Bommai said.
Soon after assuming the office, Bommai said he faced the Covid pandemic and unprecedented floods and everything was effectively managed.
In the last four years, no violence had been reported from any part of the State and even the Assembly elections also passed off peacefully for which the Home Department must be congratulated, he said.
Bommai said several important decisions have been taken such as a hike in the reservation, challenges of the government employees and new policies.
The officials played a vital role in the implementation of employment policy and industrial policy. Their cooperation was very important, he added.
BJP analysed reasons for Debacle
Later, speaking to media persons, he said the BJP has analysed the reasons for its poll debacle and will try to correct the lapses.
Bommai said he spoke the former Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar, who was among the defeated ministers and was sad to note that several persons, who had worked with him at lost by narrow margins
``I am trying to console and instill confidence in Dr Sudhakar. I will also meet Housing Minister V Somanna, who lost in both places he had contested. It is very unfortunate,’’ he said.
Bommai welcomed the appointment of DGP Praveen Sood as the CBI Director and termed it as a good decision as he was a very good officer. The Centre has selected Sood because he is an IPS officer, which is an All India Service cadre, he added.
The outgoing Chief Minister declined to comment on the tussle for Chief Ministership between Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar as it was an internal matter of the Congress party.
