Udupi, May 11: Counting of votes for the five assembly constituencies of Udupi district will be held at St Cecily's educational institutions on May 13.
The ballot units of all the five constituencies have been kept in strong rooms of the institution under tight police security.
A three-tier security system involving the central reserve force, state reserve force and the district police has been put in place to guard the strong rooms. Only people with necessary passes are being allowed into the counting centres. The process of counting of votes will begin at 8 am on Saturday, May 13.
Observers of the five assembly constituencies, candidates and agents will be present during the counting. 375 trained staff have been appointed for the counting procedures.
Section 144 and prohibitory orders will be clamped from 5 am on May 13 to 12 am with a view to maintaining law and order in the district. No meetings and victory processions will be allowed during this period.
Sale and transport of liquor has been banned from 12 am on May 12 to 12 am on May 13. A dry day is being imposed during this period.
Udupi district recorded a total polling percentage of 78.57%. Byndoor recorded 77.86%, Kundapura - 78.94%, Udupi - 75.85%, Kaup - 79.44%, and Karkala - 81.28%.
