UAE Issues Rules for Chicken, Egg Imports

Dubai, July 10 (IANS/WAM) The UAE Sunday issued guidelines for importing live chickens and eggs from Asia.

Exporters should have an early warning system for detecting avian flu, said the document issued by the Environment and Water Minister Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad.

They must also have CITES certificates (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) and birds should be free of the highly pathogenic strain of H5N1.

Exporters are required to obtain a permit from the ministry and shipments are allowed through the airports in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah, and through Ghuweifate border check post.
