Mangalore, Jul 10: Amidst a great deal of whirring and cheering, the city's Jawa and Yezdi Motorcycle Club celebrated the 9th international Jawa day with a rally here on Sunday July 10.

Jawa owners worldwide celebrate their proud ownership on the second Sunday of July every year.
 
The Mangalore Jawa and Yezdi Motorcycle Club has members from all walks of life, from students and professors to IT professionals, doctors and engineers who share their common love for motorcycles, whether they own one or not.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Arun Shiri who has a Jawa and a Yezdi said that the club meets every month, usually on Sundays. The riders are content in just meeting up or riding to beaches or to the hills to watch the sunset.
 
Today, with new upgraded models being launched by companies, these older models have slowly phased out. However, the Yezdi, one of the few bikes from yesteryears is still cherished by the younger generation that takes pride in owning it.
 
Over 30 riders darted off from the starting point with their Yezdi and Jawa motorcycles,  roaring their way around the city which reverberated with the sound of the revving motor cycle engines. Riders from Udupi, Kundapur, Chikkamagalur also assembled in the city to participate in the rally.
 
On the occasion funds were collected by the club for an animal care trust.
 
Jawa is a motorcycle manufacturer based in the Czech Republic, founded in 1923 by Frantisek Janecek. The company set up its manufacturing unit in India in collaboration with a local company in 1961.

    I was real surprised to find people who still love these bikes because i started with a jawa in 1973 and my last bike was a roadking in 1997 in between i have nearly used all the models released... they are real bikes for real MEN.

    I congratulate Daijiworld for the display of Java and Yezdi Mobikes,I used to like them from the year 1956 till late eighties,I along jeevaraj alva used go and see and admire these bikes when they were imported from Czekoslavkya and we specially liked the beat of the this Masculine bike,It is a pity either Tata or Birla did not take interest in this bike factory when they ceased making them and closed the factory in Mysore.

    Feel proud to have a club in Mangalore. There could be much more bike owners in mangalore and surrounding towns of Sullia and Puttur as well. Time to build good network and restoring ailing roadsters. Please contact the Bangalore Jawa Club.     Waw, it was nice to see bikes like MEA9895 and MEX97 could be they are 1968 MY. Jossie I did have a spare tyre for my 1980 classic which I fixed in place of the crash guard. All nice snaps good to see!!!!!

    Jossie Mascarenhas, Bajpe / Dubai, stepny is indian local word...usually it's called as sparewheel, spare tire, this stepny word might have come from step -in, or safety -in.

    Jossie, i believe a version of the Classic came with a spare tyre option. The wheel was mounted sideways between the engine and front wheel.
    Another lesser known fact about jawa's/yezdi's is that the front and rear wheel can be interchanged unlike conventional bikes!

    Vintage Yezdis are very nice in displays, particularly the registration numbers like MEX, MYX, MEA, MYG, MEG, MEA.... The registration numbers like KA19.. gives an impression that the vehicle is new..!!

    Jossie, it's easy.. don't go for long ride. I am even a step a head of you.. wondering why cars have only one spare tyres with them.If more than one tyre got punctured together at a time , what's the use of a single spare tyre.

    I always wonder why there is no spare tyre for motorbikes? Isn't it a bit scary especially when you go out for a long ride? Can somebody explain please? Secondly, what does Stepny mean? Well, I could not find it in any dictionary. Maybe wrong spelling..
