Sullia, May 9: In a tragic incident that occurred at Pelathagundi of Kumaradhara river at Kankal of Kenya near Balpa under the limits of Subramanya police station, two sisters died due to drowning on Monday May 8 evening.
Hamisitha (15) and Avantika (11), daughters of Satish Ammannaya, who is working as an engineer at Bengaluru and native of Balpa Kankal, are the unfortunate victims of this tragedy.
Satish Ammannaya is settled in Bengaluru. His wife had come to her husband’s brother Uday Ammannaya’s house at Kenya along with their daughters. The daughters who came to Uday’s house on Monday morning, had gone to Kumaradhara river which flows near the house of Uday. Family members were sitting on the banks while the girls got down into the river and went missing.
There was a family function at Kankal for which the two siblings had come with their mother. The family members began searching for the girls as soon as they went missing. Fire service personnel were also called and local diving experts searched in the river. Their mortal remains were found after an intense search around night.
It is suspected that the girls might have drowned as they could gauge the depth of the river. Subramanya Police visited the spot and registered a case.
