Bengaluru, May 6: AICC General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala has alleged a plot to assassinate Congress President Mallikarjuna Kharge and his family as part of ‘the hate politics of BJP’.
Surjewala, who is State Congress in charge, has alleged that the ruling BJP’s favourite and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s blue-eyed boy Manikanth Rathod, who is also the BJP candidate from Chittapur constituency in Kalaburgi district, has hatched a plot to kill Kharge, his wife and entire family.

Releasing an audio tape of alleged plot to assassinate by the BJP candidate in Chittapur to the media, Surjewala charged that ‘it was a clear attempt of vendetta politics of the ruling BJP against Kharge and his family and the entire Dalit community’.
“The BJP is desperate and is unable to stomach the fact that it is facing a rout in the May 10 assembly elections in the State,’’ Surjewala said.
The Congress leader even targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his ridicule of the Congress party on February 27 by referring to his comment that he was not taking shelter under Congress programmes while BJP MLA from Rajasthan and General Secretary Madan Dilawar had the audacity to mention that Kharge was already 80-year-old and he might be called by god (death) at any time, indicating that he wants the death of Kharge.
“Now, the audio tape (of Manikanth Rathod) proves that the ruling party wants to finish of the Kharge family,’’ Surjewala claimed.
Surjewala alleged that the BJP is desperate of losing and wants to wreak violence and assassinations to further its political ends. ``This is an attack not just against Kharge and his family but the entire Dalit community and Kannadigas,’’ he added.
CM promises probe into genuineness of audio
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister, while speaking to media persons in Hubballi, said "Investigation will be conducted into the genuineness of the audio which has claimed to killing AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and his family members.’’
He told reporters here on Saturday that the audio will be examined whether it has fudged. However, a case will be filed and launch probe, he added.
