Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore
Bangalore, Jul 10: Kumaraswamy, who broke his 28-hour fast here on Sunday July 10, said that he was personally not happy in breaking his fast but did it for his mother who was suffering on his account.
He thanked his supporters for being with him all the way. He also apologised for any inconvenience caused by his fasting.
The JD(S) chief reiterated that the allegations levelled against him and his family were baseless and did not do any good to Yeddyurappa.
Kumaraswamy broke his fast with a glass of juice after senior literatteur U R Ananthamurthy and others had a talk with him.
A decision to end the fast was taken at a meeting held at the JD(S) office under the leadership of Deve Gowda on Sunday July 10.
The decision comes in the wake of the deteriorating health condition of Kumaraswamy, who is a diabetic.
Earlier in the morning, ministers R Ashok, Bachchegowda, and V Somanna met him at his camp in Freedom Park and reportedly tried to pursuade Kumaraswamy to end the fast immediately.
Ashok handed over a letter from chief minister Yeddyurappa to Kumaraswamy, but the details of the letter are not known. However, Kumaraswamy responded to the letter saying BJP should not have used the word 'charge sheet' against him and his family and instead should have called it 'allegation'.
Sources said Yeddyurappa has reportedly agreed to Kumaraswamy's demand to drop the word 'charge sheet' and instead 'allegation' would be used in the booklet. Yeddyurappa also ruled out CBI probe into HDK's family wealth and said that state government agencies are investigating already.
On Saturday, Kumaraswamy had begun his fast demanding CBI enquiry into the allegations by BJP that his family members had amassed illegal wealth of Rs 1,500 crore. HDK had said that if the allegations by the ruling party were true, then there should be CBI probe.
The Gowda family of four sons and two daughters is accused of "amassing assets now valued at Rs.1,500 crore by illegal means".
The assets, listed in a booklet made public by BJP June 28 here, include land, commercial and residential properties and several companies run by the family -- mainly by the sons and daughters-in-law.
On Saturday, doctors examined Kumaraswamy's health at least five times as the former CM is a diabetic.
On Sunday morning, the doctor who visited Kumaraswamy told the media that the blood sugar level of Kumaraswamy has increased to 315 from 215 as on Saturday.
Narendra Babu, a Congress MLA also visited Kumaraswamy, but later he told the press that it was just a courtesy meet and a personal visit, and had nothing to do with his party.
A media brief is expected from both government and the JD(S) later in the day.
