Media Release

Mangaluru, May 5: The Post Graduate Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of St Aloysius College (Autonomous), in collaboration with Jeevandhara Centre, Kulshekar, Mangaluru, organised a talk and interactive session on the subject 'Menopause: A Guide to Health and Wellbeing', at Kulshekar, on Tuesday, May 2 by Dr Jyotsna Coelho, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Father Muller Medical College Hospital.

“Menopause is a natural process that marks the end of a woman’s reproductive years,” said Dr Jyotsna. While it is a normal part of aging, the changes it brings can be challenging for some women. However, there are several ways to cope with these changes and maintain good health during this transition, she added.

“One of the most important things a woman can do during menopause is to take care of her overall health. This includes getting enough sleep, avoiding caffeine, exercising regularly, and practicing relaxation techniques such as yoga or meditation. Eating a balanced diet that includes fruits, vegetables and calcium-rich foods can also help alleviate symptoms,” said Dr Jyotsna.

Dr Jyotsna mentioned that it is also important to maintain a healthy weight and drink plenty of water. If symptoms are severe, hormone therapy or low-dose antidepressants may be prescribed to control mood swings and hot flashes. However, it’s important to talk to a healthcare professional before starting any treatment.

Dr Jyotsna Coelho further adds, “Basically, we have to remember that menopause is a natural process that can bring challenges, but there are many ways to cope with these changes and maintain good health. By taking care of oneself and seeking support when needed, women can navigate this transition with greater ease.”

The dignitaries on the dais were resource person Dr Jyotsna Coelho, a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Father Muller Medical College Hospital who is also deeply involved in clinical work and research and Director of Jeevandhara Centre, Sr Ida Janet. The program started with a prayer song followed by lighting the lamp.
