Margao, Jul 9: The government in Goa is being optimistic about paddy cultivation after good response from the agro - entrepreneurs for its schemes.
The recent developments in the modern farming methods, attractive subsidies and support prices offered by the government will be a fortune for farmers in southern Salcete and Mormugao talukas.
According to the agricultural officers in the zone around 6,000 hectare land was under paddy cultivation last year in these talukas and an increase of 1,000 hectares land is expected this year including waste lands in Macazana, Chandor, some parts of Nuvem and Curtorim for the cultivation.
Zonal agricultural officer Sandeep Faldesai said that 75% subsidy is offered by the government for the purchase of machineries like combine harvesters, tractors and power tillers this mechanisatio in the farming have reduced the manual labour to 40% and has lifted the economic stature of the farmers in the state.
The support price of Rs 7 by the government is attracting more young people to agriculture he added.
Besides these, many politicians support agro activities by distributing free machineries to farmers.
