Mangalore: NCC Cadets Learn Relief, Rescue Skills in Mock Drill

Mangalore, Jul 9: A demonstration of the relief and rescue skills required during disasters was held through a mock drill staged at Karnataka Polytechnic, Kadri in the city on Thursday July 8. The demonstration was organized as part of the combined annual training camp of the cadets of the 18 Karnataka Battalion, in association with Dakshina Kannada District Natural Disaster Management Committee, Karnataka Home Guards, and the fire brigade.
The drill included steps to be taken in case of incidents like bomb lasts, like emergency evacuation, relief, rescuing people trapped inside multi-storied buildings in case of fire, dousing of fire, first aid, handling of the injured etc. Various types of sprinkling of water through water jets in case of water were also demonstrated.
Deputy Commandant of Karnataka Home Guards, Ashok P Wajre, explained about the quick response and handling of disasters, on the occasion.
Additional deputy commissioner of the district, Prabhakar Sharma, speaking on the occasion, said that the demonstration and training in handling of disasters had been arranged for the NCC cadets as per the instructions of the National Disaster Management Authority, with the cooperation of Home Guards and fire brigade.
District commandant of Home Guards, Dr Nidarsh Hegde, regional fire officer, H S Varadarajan, deputy commandant of home guards, Purushottam, and others were present.
